Special investigation team formed to probe Anti-sikh riots

A new progress in the Anti-Sikh riots probe is the formation of a new panel to probe into 186 cases of anti-sikh riots.

The Supreme court has set up a three- member special investigation team which includes former Delhi High Court judge Justice SN Dhingra, serving IPS officer Abhishek Dular and retired IG rank officer Rajdeep Singh.

The SIT will be headed by Justice Dhingra who will supervise further probe.

The SIT will have to report to a bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra. And will submit its status report in two months to Misra.

Large-scale riots had broken out in the national capital in the aftermath of the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by two Sikh security guards on the morning of October 31, 1984. The violence had claimed 2,733 lives in Delhi alone.
