DCI privatization to be halted

Vizag Jan 11: In a major victory for employees who have objected the privatization of Dredging Corporatization of India the central government may drop such proposal.

Sources said that the Shipping Ministry has objected the proposal citing the recent shift in focus of central government in economic developmental proposals. The Ministry is of the view that DCIs expertise would be immensely needed for developing the newly proposed waterways and development of ports under 'Sagarmala' project.

Officials have said that "The DCI would be providing cost-effective solutions and has immense experience in sea dredging and the same could be useful for river dredging as well and involving private players would take time and the cost of projects would be esclated".

The minister Nitin Gadkari has also opposed the selloff DCI and he may order the company to be merged with other govt sector unit.Sources said that the government might had also considered the protest made by the DCI employees and the CM Chandrababu Assurance on the issue.
