Sc To deliver verdict on Cauvery Water Sharing in one month

New Delhi Jan 10: The Supreme Court on Tuesday has indicated that it would deliver its verdict on the decades-old Cauvery water dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka within one month /4 weeks.

The court has said that "enough confusion has been created on it for over two decades.Any forum could touch the matter relating to the Cauvery basin only after it gave the verdict in four weeks."

The apex court has made the above remarks during the hearing the appeals filed by a citizens’ group led by Kiran Mazumdar Shaw seeking the court's intervention for the supply of drinking water to the residents of Bengaluru and surrounding districts.

The Court had reserved its verdict on the appeals filed by Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala against the 2007 award of the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal (CWDT) on sharing of water.

The Citizens of Bengaluru have also said that if more water is released to Tamilnadu from Cauvery river the people of the city would face acute water shortages and the court must intervene in this issue.
