Union govt :Cable TV digitisation: 75 pc target achieved

New Delhi Jan 7: The Union Government has released the progress of cable digitilization in the country and said that About 75 percent digitization has been achieved in phase III & IV of cable TV digitization in the country.

The information and broadcasting ministry informed a Parliamentary standing committee looking into the cable TV digitization and interoperability of Set-top boxes that "As per data in the management information systems, wherein all registered MSOs, DTH and HITS operators were given passwords to enter STB seeding status, about 75 percent digitization has been achieved in phase III & IV areas (excluding Tamil Nadu )."

The Ministry has also informed the committee that "digitization in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata in Phase I and 37 cities in phase II has been achieved. However, it held up in Chennai (oh I) and Coimbatore (ph II) due to a court case by Arasu cable wherein the court had ordered not to disturb analog signals of arasu cable till a decision is taken by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on their application for MSO registration."
