Reports of North Korean missile striking its own city revealed

North Korea has been experimenting with new missiles and according to reports a Hwasong-12 intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) was launched by North Korea.

The missile failed in mid air and crashed into Chongsin-dong, in city of Tokchon, causing considerable damage. Tokchon has a population of around 200,000.

The North Korean missile was launched on April 28, last year, from Pukchang Airfield in South Pyongan Province. After its launch, the missile flew approximately 24 miles to the north-east but, no higher than around 43 miles, The Diplomat magazine reported.

As per a US government source, the first stage engines of the missile failed around a minute after the launch. Notably, the satellite images from Google Earth taken after the crash show a clear area. However, it is not known whether any loss of life was reported.
