Telangana BJP urges Governor to solve the woes of Gulf returnees

Hyderabad, Jan 03: The Telangana BJP unit has urged Governor ESL Narasimhan on Tuesday to intervene for resolving the woes of Gulf returnees and their families.

According to a memorandum submitted to the Governor by Telangana BJP President K Laxman, about 10 lakh people from different districts of Telangana are working in various Gulf countries and almost a similar number had come back, after having worked there. Most of these belong to the socially and economically backward classes. Since the condition in Gulf countries has become unfavourable, the Indians working there were returning to their native country in a huge number, Dr Laxman pointed out.

He said these people were in huge debts now, as they had borrowed huge amounts from private money lenders, while some even sold their properties, to go to Gulf and other countries. People also committed suicide, when they failed to pay the debts after returning to India, the BJP state chief said.

He demanded to set up a Migrants Welfare Corporation, with a corpus of Rs 1,000 crore, to provide loans to those who incurred debts after returning from overseas, at 0.25 per cent rate of interest.

The BJP chief also requested that a compensation of Rs six lakh be paid to those, who lost their lives either in Gulf or after their return. Employment or livelihood should be provided to one of their family members, Dr Laxman demanded.
