APs Krishna District clared as ODF district

Krishna, Jan 01: The Andhra Pradesh Minister for Water Resources Management Devineni Umamaheshwara Rao said that 1.57 lakh individual toilet had been constructed in Krishna district, benefiting 6.15 lakh people.

The Minister, along with Krishna district Collector B Lakshmikantham and Joint Collector Vijaya Krishnan participated at Atma Gourava Deeksha programme here on Sunday. As part of it, he took part in the cycle rally.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that in 970 village panchayats, 1,57,290 individual toilets had been constructed, benefiting 6,15,692. Massive awareness programmes are being organized to educate people on the usage of these toilets.

He said that Andhra Pradesh had stood in the second place in the Open Defecation Free (ODF) states in the country. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is making efforts to make Andhra Pradesh as ODF state by March 2018, the minister informed.

Collector B Lakshmikantham said that after Krishna district had been declared as ODF district, awareness programmes were organized for 21 days in a big way in rural areas sensitizing people on the usage of toilets.

A large number of school and college students participated at the cycle rally.
