Airtel to pay Rs 190 crore subsidy for customers

New Delhi Dec 20: India's major telecom giant Airtel has paid an interim penalty of Rs 2.5 crore to UIDAI the Aadhar agency for allegedly opening payments bank accounts of its mobile subscribers without their 'informed consent'.

Earlier the Agency has suspended the E-KYC license of the telecom operator after few customers have complained that LPG subsidy was being deposited in Airtel accounts which were opened without their consent.

Sources said that the company had decided to pay back the subsidy amount of Rs 190 crore in next 24 hours to 31 lakh bank customers account of their choice and also decided to inform them about the change.

Meanwhile, the Aadhar agency had made customer consent compulsory for transferring bank subsidy so that these
incidents don't repeat again.
