GST effect :Marie,Glucose,Milk biscuits prices to be increased

Mumbai Dec 17: Do you eat Marie, Milk biscuits be ready to shed extra rupees. Yes, u heard it right.Parle Biscuit Manufacturing company has decided to increase the rates of biscuits.

Parle Products Category Head Mayank Shah has said that "As of now, we have not taken any price hike (decision) but we would be thinking of a price hike considering the increased taxes.It will happen in the first quarter of next year, which is January-March. There might be an increase of 4-5 percent in the price in brands which are below Rs 100 per kg".

He added that "Primarily, glucose, milk, and Marie are the categories which will see an increase in prices."

Currently, the Company sells Glucose biscuits under the Brand Parle G, Milksahakthi and Marie biscuits. Sources said that the company has decided to increase the prices because of the taxes levied under GST.

Earlier there were lower taxes on biscuits priced below Rs 100 per kg.However, under GST all biscuits have been taxed at 18 %.
