Newton movie out of Oscar race

Los Angeles Dec 15: Indians hope of winning OSacr Award this year were dashed as the Newton Movie failed to qualify for further rounds.The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAAS) has announced that "the Amit Masurkar-directed black comedy is not a part of the nine-film line-up which has advanced to the next round of voting."

AMPAAS has selected only 9 films for further screening and selection and these include 'A Fantastic Woman' (Chile), 'In the Fade'(Germany), 'On Body and Soul'(Hungary), 'Foxtrot'(Israel), 'The Insult' (Lebanon), 'Loveless ' (Russia), 'Felicite' (Senegal), 'The Wound' (South Africa) and 'The Square' (Sweden).



Early the film made Entry into Best Foreign Language category at the 90th Academy Awards and the Nominations would be announced on January 23.The ceremony will be held on March 4 in Los Angeles.

Newton is a Bollywood film directed by Amit Masurkar and it features Raj Kumar Rao in the lead role and the story depicts the difficulties faced by the government servants in conducting elections in the Maoist areas.
