EC bars airing of Rahul Gandhi's Interviews

Gujarat Dec 14: Currently the second phase of the Gujarat polls is going on. The Election Commission had issued show cause notices to Congress president Rahul Gandhi for violating the model code by giving interviews to TV channels in Gujarat before the last day of polls.

EC had also urged the officials in Gujarat to file a first investigation report against news channels who aired the interview on Wednesday. The commission had also ordered the media not to air interviews until the elections are complete.



Currently, the model code of conduct places a bar on directly addressing voters or influencing them after the end of the campaigning phase. The campaign for the polls had ended on Dec 12.

The EC had taken this decision after a complained was filed by the state BJP unit which urged that Congress president had violated the code of conduct.
