Top 100 Taxpayers to be felicitated by government

New Delhi, Dec 13: In a move to encourage more people to pay taxes the tax department has come up with new idea i.e to facilitate the top 100 taxpayers in their regions.

Sources said that "the tax department had organized some events in past few weeks and more such events are planned in coming weeks." The tax department in 2016 had started taxpayer felicitation programmes.Last year, taxpayers were given certificates of appreciation based on their income.

# Rs 1 lakh and Rs 10 lakh were given bronze certificates
# Rs 10 lakh and Rs 50 lakh were given silver certificates
# Rs 50 lakh and Rs 1 crore annually were given gold certificates
# Above Rs 1 crore a year were given platinum certificates.

Officials have also said that "The government wants to encourage all taxpayers and this is just one of the ways and Every year, the names of highest taxpayers are announced."
