14 Crore PAN cards linked with Aadhar

New Delhi Dec 12: The union government has made mandatory linking of PAN -with Aadhar and the deadline has been extended to March 31, 2018, for the linkage.The officials have revealed the progress of linkage of the progress and said that nearly 14 crore PAN cards have been linked with Aadhar.

Currently, there are 33 crore PAN cards, while Aadhaar has been issued to about 115 crore people. Earlier the Finance ministry has extended the deadline and said that "It has come to notice that some of the taxpayers have not yet completed the linking of PAN with Aadhaar. Therefore, to facilitate the process of linking, it has been decided to further extend the time for linking of Aadhaar with PAN till March 31, 2018."

The government had also made Aadhar mandatory for filing of income tax returns and said that this move would ensure better tax compliance and tax evasion is restricted.
