Govt to SC: 12 Courts to be set up for  speedy trials of MPs, MLAs

New Delhi Dec 12: In a move to ensure politics is decriminalised the Central Government has told supreme court that it would establish 12 special courts to speed up trials of MPs and MLAs in the country.

Earlier the Supreme court had urged the center to set up special courts to ensure cases on MPS and MLAs are disposed of quickly and the union government has agreed and also allocated funds for this purpose.

According to Data submitted by MPs and MLAs to the election commission in their affidavits, there are 1571 criminal cases pending against public representatives.

The government said, "that these 12 courts were being set up for one year and further decisions regarding the requirement of additional courts will be taken in due course."
