Navy chief letters to Defence Minister

New Delhi, December 06: In a major development, Naval Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba and Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrashekhar appealed to Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to reverse a government order that is attempting to limit educational reimbursement to children of martyred or disabled soldiers.

he wrote a letter to Minister that, " this small gesture would assure the families of our brave women and men that the nation cares for them and their sacrifices are truly appreciated by the government."

In this regard the minister has responed on Tuesday evening said she understood the sentiment against the move, adding that she would "go back to consider it".

The minister, however, underlined that the limit was introduced as part of a Cabinet decision on pay hikes and the decision was not just hers to take.

Army chief earlier said that, soldiers have made the supreme sacrifice for the country and this small contribution to their wards is recognition of their commitment to the country's defence.
