Cyclone Ockhi looses intensity,39 dead and 167 fishermen missing

Maharastra Dec 6: The Cyclone Ockhi is currently traveling towards Gujarat and has weakened its intensity and turned into deep depression. IMD Officials have said that "Cyclonic storm Ockhi has already turned into a deep depression and may hit south Gujarat only as a depression"

The officials have added that "The deep depression over the east-central Arabian Sea moved further north-northeastwards with a speed of 18 kmph during the past six hours and lay centered over the east-central Arabian Sea near latitude 19.4degrees N and longitude 71.5degrees E, about 240 km south-southwest of Surat and 150 km west-northwest of Mumbai."

Joint Secretary in the ministry Sanjeev Kumar Jindal has said that "As of now, 10 people lost their lives in Tamil Nadu and 29 others in Kerala. Even though the exact number of missing persons were not known, as per available information, whereabouts of 74 fishermen in Tamil Nadu and 93 fishermen in Kerala is not known yet.A total of 556 fishermen were also rescued by relief and rescue teams from seas."
