Worli to Versova sea link approved by Maharastra Government

Mumbai Dec 5: In a yet another move to improve connectivity in the Mumbai City the Maharastra government today granted administrative approval to the Versova-Bandra sea link (VBSL) project.

The project has been delayed for almost a decade because of various reasons such as delay in getting clearances from Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) and environment clearance from the Centre. Officials have estimated the cost of the project to be Rs 7,502 crore and its length is estimated to be about 17.17 kms.

Officials have said that "The main four-lane bridge of VBSL will be 9.60 kms. The cable-stayed bridge will be 0.30 kms long and the Balance Cantilever Bridge will be 0.10 km long. The VBSL will have connectors at Bandra, Otters Club, Juhu Link Road and Versova Link Road. There will be toll plazas at Bandra, Carter Road, Juhu-Koliwada and at Nana-Nani Park ."

Currently, sea link bridges are essential for public transport as the most parts of the city are connected by sea and the newly proposed sea link would connect the existing Bandra-Worli sea link.
