Government proposes 3-year Jail term for Triple Talaq

New Delhi Dec 2: The union government in a move to protect women from Triple talaq has sent a draft bill to all states seeking their response .According to the draft

# A person would be awarded a maximum jail term of three years if he gives divorce by pronouncing Triple talaq.

# Instant triple talaq in any form — oral, written or electronic form — has been banned and made a cognizable offense.

# A subsistence allowance of a harassed Muslim woman and her dependent children and the custodial rights of minor children has also been provided.

Sources said that the proposed Muslim Woman Protection of Rights on Marriage bill would be introduced in the parliament session and the government hopes that the bill would be passed this session itself.
