Customs officials seized Rs 3.96 crore foreign currency

Hyderabad Nov 23: A foreign currency exchange racket was busted on Wednesday as Customs officials at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport detained two persons and seized foreign currency worth Rs 3.96 crore.

Officials said that "the currency included seven different countries including the United States and Saudi Arabia and they were smuggling them to Dubai."

police said that "late night on Tuesday, the South Zone Task Force received an alert about two persons from Fateh Darwaza and Moghalpura being in possession of foreign currency, with which they were planning to go abroad.The Task Force informed the Customs officials at the airport, who swung into action and detained the duo when they reached the airport premises in the wee hours of Wednesday."



"A baggage was retrieved from the baggage belt and foreign currency worth Rs 3.96 crore was seized. Based on his confession, the second person, who had arranged the foreign currency, was picked up from the airport premises" Customs officials said.

A case was booked and the investigation is on and further details are awaited.
