Telanganas Kaleshwaram Project gets another two clearances

Hyderabad, Nov 23: In another relief to the Telangana's prestigious Project Kaleshwaram irrigation project, the Centre issued two clearances on Wednesday.

The Central Groundwater Board under the Union Ministry of Water Resources and the Construction Machinery Consultancy Directorate gave their nod for the project.

These clearances are in addition to the hydrological clearance from Central Water Commission (CWC) and forest land clearance for the project from the Forest Department.

The Director (CMC) is responsible for providing consultancy/assistance in project preparation cost estimates, procurement of construction equipment, techno-economic appraisal of project reports, performance evaluation of construction equipment, examination of technical bids with reference to equipment planning and deployment and assistance to Bureau of Indian Standards.

The clearances were issued after Irrigation Minister, T Harish Rao met Union Water Resources Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi on Wednesday and requested speedy approvals. During the meeting, Rao explained the importance of the Kaleshwaram project as well as the inordinate delays in approvals for its second phase.

He also sought the Union Minister's intervention to ensure coordination between the Environment and Forest Departments for speedy disposal of permissions.

Rao said Gadkari assured that all clearances for the project would be given soon and funds for the construction will be released. Irrigation Special Chief Secretary SK Joshi and Kaleshwaram Chief Engineer Hari Ram accompanied the Minister.
