Hyderabad, Nov 21: The Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has asserted on Monday that the proposed five-day World Telugu Conference (WTC) starting from December 15 should be held with the same spirit, coordination and enthusiasm shown during the separate statehood movement, which achieved the Telangana State in 2014.

Addressing the literary personalities and scholars in Telugu at a review meeting on the arrangements being made for the conference to be held from December 15 here at Pragati Bhavan in the city, the Chief Minister said he wanted the proposed conference to reflect the self-respect, literary history, culture of Telangana and not to demean others.

The Chief Minister felt that there was lot of literary creativity that took place in the Telangana region in the past. There is no dearth of talent in the region. But unfortunately, the Telangana literary personalities did not get the fame or recognition that they deserved, he lamented.

The Government would also introduce a policy to encourage people studying Telugu with job opportunities. There should be subjects in Telugu to teach students social awareness, ethical values and respect towards elders, he suggested.

There was a request from Muslim religious elders that Urdu language should also be taught till Intermediate in Urdu medium schools, he said.

The meeting was attended by Chief Advisor to Government Rajiv Sharma, Advisor Culture K.V. Ramanachary, MP K. Kavita, Telangana Sahitya Adacemy Chairman Nandini Siddha Reddy, Press Academy Chairman Allam Narayana, officials of various departments and scholars, poets and writers.
