Egg prices skyrocket, Retail price Rs 6 per egg

Hyderabad Nov 20: Are you fond of eating eggs?Just think twice before eating them because their prices have skyrocketed and currently eggs are costing Rs 600 per 100 eggs and the retail price has gone up to Rs 6.25-6.5 per egg. The situation is similar all across south India.

Traders have said that there are various factors for the rise in demand

# Rise in demand: There has been a sudden rise in demand for eggs and the chicken demand has gone down slightly. Generally, in winter, the demand for eggs goes up and currently the prices of vegetables have also gone which resulted in people shifting towards eggs.

Less of numbers eggs are laid this season because many birds are slaughtered early compared to actual period because hens grow faster in winter compared to summer

# Rise in input cost: The inputs for poultry such as chicken feed prices have also significantly and this led to an increase in prices. The drought in Maharashtra and Karnataka has resulted in the shortage of maize which is the main feed for hen and this resulted in the increase in prices of eggs.

Traders expect the price would stabilize in coming months and would come down in January.
