Manmohan Singh says hasty implementation of GST has crashed economy

Congress again indicated the wrong implementation of GST, Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday claimed that the country's economy slowed down due to hasty implementation of GST.

He said that after Demonitisation the hurried implementation of GST by the government had dropped ecomomic growth and he doesn't see any immediate recovery in sight.

Manmohan Singh was addressing the public at a meeting organised by the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF).

“What is the net impact of demonetisation and hasty implementation of GST? It led to a slowdown of our economic growth,” he said.

Singh said the GDP growth rate came down from 7.2% in 2015-16 to 5.7% in the first quarter of 2017- 18 and small industries and traders were badly hit.
