Karnataka Assembly Passes Anti Black Magic bill

Bengaluru Nov 18: In a Move to ban superstitions in the state the Karnataka Assembly on Thursday passed Karnataka Prevention and Eradication of Inhuman Evil Practices and Black Magic Bill.

The bill was framed based on the Bill passed by Maharastra in 2013 and the Karnataka government has listed 23 superstitious beliefs which are banned and these attract severe punishment and even jail if found practicing these.

The following superstitions are banned

# Human Sacrifice

# Performing any black magic, inhumane act and evil practices in search of treasure or bounty, tantric acts which include physical and sexual assault

# parading people naked

# Rituals of exorcism

# assaulting people under the pretext of exorcism

#misinformation and creating a panic-like situation under the pretext of ghosts and black magic will also be banned.



# claims of having healing power

# propagating practices that involve self-mutilation

# fire-walking

# Animal sacrifice or killing animals by biting there neck

# Pulling a chariot by inserting hook into the body

# segregation of menstrual women

# rolling over leftover food

The following rituals are not banned

# Any form of worship including pradakshine, yatra, parikrama at any religious shrines

# harikatha, keerthana, pravachana, bhajans

# knowledge of ancient arts and practices

# speaking about miracles performed by deceased saints

# religious rituals at places of worship or at people's homes

# religious celebrations, festivals, processions

# piercing of ears and nose, shaving of head

# astrology and Vaastu
