RBI : RS 1.7L Cr suspicious cash deposited post note ban

New Delhi Nov 17: The Reserve bank of India has revealed some crucial data regarding the deposits made in the bank's post demonetisation announced by PM Modi on Nov 8 last year . Earlier the RBI in its annual report has said that 99 % of demonetized notes have been returned to banks and there was no information on the amount of black money destroyed.

However recently an Internal study conducted by RBI has revealed that Rs 1.7 lakh crore, was deposited in less active accounts post demonetisation. The accounts involve basic savings bank deposit accounts Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) accounts, dormant or inoperative accounts, co-operative banks' accounts with scheduled commercial banks (SCBs), bullion trader/jewelers' accounts as well as loan accounts.

The amount was deposited post demonetisation in 52 banks was Rs Rs 4.36 lakh crore and these accounts had deposits of Rs 2.7 lakh crore in September-October 2016 and thus there was a rise in cash deposits of Rs 1.7 lakhs which are surprising because these accounts don't see huge
deposits in normal days and the deposits in the accounts have reduced in 2017.

Sources said that RBI has decided to share the details with IT dept and other investigative agencies which would help the officials to detect the black money.
