Cabinet approves establishment of National Anti Profiteering Authority

New Delhi Nov 16: The union cabinet under the leadership of Prime Minister has taken some crucial decisions.

Setting up of National Anti Profiteering Authority Under GST

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has told the media that the cabinet has approved an National Anti Profiteering Authority under the GST

Minister has also said that "Consumers can complain to the authority if they feel that reduction in taxes has not been passed to them ".



Under the APA a state level screening committee would verify the claims and then an inquiry would be done and for national goods, a national level committee would enquire and take appropriate action.

Minister has added that "the move to set up this authority is an assurance to consumers in India that the Modi Government is focused on protecting their interests and profiteering does not take place."

He has also explained that the urgency of setting up the committee because last week the GST council has reduced the tax rates of 178 items from 28 % to 18 % and some other items tax rates have also been decreased and the tax rates on restaurants were also reduced to 5 %.
