Tax rates of 170 goods reduced

Guwahati Nov 10: In a Move to grant relief to the consumer the GST council has taken a crucial decesion to cut the tax rates of 170 items which attracted 28 % tax and these items would be taxed at 18 % and 12 %.

Currently, the Council meeting is underway and some more crucial decisions may also be taken.

Sources said that the council has reviewed the tax rates of 227 items and reduced the list to 50 items which include luxury items and
sin Goods and this decision would amount a loss of Rs 20,000 crore to the government.

The following goods taxes have been reduced

# all types of chewing gum

# chocolates

# preparation for women cosmetics

# shaving and after-shave items



# deodorants

# washing powder detergent

# granite

# marble

# shampoo

# shoe polish

# nutrition drinks

# items of mass consumption

The tax on the following items have not been reduced- 28 %.

# Paints

# cement

# washing machine

# Air conditioners
