Telangana Govt committed for Welfare of Muslim Minorities: CM KCR

Hyderabad, Nov 5: The Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said on Saturday, that the government was committed to the development of Muslims in the state.

While speaking after inaugurating an annual conference of All India Muslim Education Society (AMES) here today, Mr. Rao congratulated AMES for creating awareness for education development in a silent but effective manner and as a result of which several philanthropists and institutions have established over 150 educational institutions of higher learning across the country.

He said for centuries, Muslims here held significant positions in the society and were economically and educationally well off. However, during the last few decades, they fell way behind other communities for different reasons. Consequently, their progress and confidence were severely dented.

The Chief Minister said that the State Government initiated several innovative in education, social and economic measures for poor Muslims. An Annual Budget of Rs 1250 crore was allocated for Minorities Welfare.

He said that the government has set up 206 Minority Residential Schools in the state. More than 50,000 students were enrolled and each student the cost spent was Rs 65,000. This was in addition to the infrastructure cost of a minimum of 5 acres of land and Rs 20 crore to build each school. 50 percent of these schools were exclusively for girls.

"This will tremendously empower the Muslim Women in a short time. Ultimately 1,35,000 students each year will get benefit with high-quality education along with sports, nutrition, clothing through these schools", he said.
