Memmorable PM- Indira Gandhi

It is our duty to recollect the services of great people who have contributed to the nation and the people.Indira Gandhi's role is commendable till date as a former prime minister and a woman.It was during her leadership India has defeated the Pakistan in a war which resulted in the formation of Bangladesh.the cordial connections with Neighbour Bangladesh is an outcome of that.

At a time when ladies hardly came out of their homes, Indiraji could muster the political wisdom and strength to become PM.It was during her tenure that privy purses conferred on former leaders of provinces were abolished and one-time compensation was offered.

During 1970 there was only state bank of India which used to be a government bank.Private banks with considerable financial strength were nationalised by her government.This move had created a considerable difference for the poor. She has also introduced 'Garibi Hatao' slogan and some steps were taken in this regard. This has glorified her name and many foreigners have called 'India is Indira'.

But many people and opposition parties have criticised her for imposition of Emergency in 1975 which has curbed the freedom of speech and many people were forcefully sterilised under the
name of family planning.

Later she has won the election and she has tried to focus on development of the country but changed political scenario and cessation demands, in particular, basing on a religion claimed
her life and she has sacrificed her life for upholding the integrity of the country.

The affection and concern of Indiraji for the betterment of poor, rural masses are still recollected by many people on death anniversary i,e 31 Oct.
