Telangana to set up Govt medical colleges in new districts

Hyderabad, Oct 31: The Telangana state govt has strongly decided to establish government medical college in each of the 10 erstwhile districts in the state.

As part of it, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had recently announced two new medical colleges for Nalgonda and Suryapet districts, said Minister for Health Dr. C Laxma Reddy while replying a question raised by members in the Council.

The Minister said at present, six medical colleges are being run under the government and permission is awaited for Medak medical college.

After the formation of the new State, the government was successful in getting additional seats in the medical stream at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in both government and private colleges, the Minister informed in the Council.

After the acquisition of land in Nalgonda and Suryapet districts, the proposals for setting up medical colleges would be sent to the Medical Council of India and the Central government for permission, he said.

Reddy, said the government was also committed to develop 'Ayush' (homeopathy) services through the allocation of adequate funds.
