Woman sweats blood on her face and palms

A case of a 21-year-old woman who sweats blood has been reported by Italian dermatologists and the rare condition has left doctors puzzled. The unnamed woman suffers from instant bleeding on her face and palms at different occasions when she is under stress, working out or even sleeping.

The latest issue of the Canadian Medical Association Journal highlights this rare case of the patient who left the doctors bewildered with her strange and terrifying symptoms. two doctors from the University of Florence wrote about the woman’s condition and said that she was suffering from hematidrosis or hematohidrosis.



Hematidrosis is a rear case where the patient sweats blood from the forehead, nails, umbilicus, and other skin surfaces. The 21-year-old patient has been suffering these unusual symptoms for the past 3 years and the bleeding episodes last from 1 to five minutes.

Talking about the side effects of the woman’s condition, the Doctors were quoted, “Our patient had become socially isolated owing to embarrassment over the bleeding and she reported symptoms consistent with major depressive disorder and panic disorder.”
