Public Distribution System to be reviewed

The much acclaimed Public Distribution System (PDS) is becoming a topic of discussion.Nowadays central and state government are spending a lot on supplying rice under this scheme at a huge subsidy.poor people in Mind Central and state are giving 6 kg of rice monthly at Rs 1 a kg.Though center is supplying 5kg of Rice Telangana state added 1 Kg.Telangana state is buying this additional rice at Rs 24 per kg.Around 2.5 crore people are availing rice. For this purpose, centre is spending more than Rs 3000 crore and state more than RS 2000 crore.

If consumers utilise this rice, supplied with amagnamity and concern by both governments then it is alright. So many buy this rice because it is available cheaply and pointing quality they use it as a fodder for cattle or sell that to some other.Even ration dealers some time misuse the system taking advantage of the loopholes. Now and then we come across black markets being nabbed in this unhealthy trend.Big Officers too could not stop this misuse.

As such CM KCR has plans to lift this system and replace it with Direct Benefit Transfer(DBT) system, in which money will be directly transferred to ration card holders bank accounts. This seals the misuse, black marketing, and a clear-cut procedure will come out.

Moreover, ration shop dealers also gave strike notice. To avoid controversies and streamlining methods in a better way KCR is seriously examining pros and cons of such a plan with serious officials.Already some union territories such as Chandigarh, Puducherry are following DBT system.
