AP students gets 5% marks on Social service

Vijayawada, Oct 21: The Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu has said at a recent meeting with college managements, that there would be five components in social service at the intermediate level and students opting either of them would get 5 percent marks.

The Sources said that the components include construction of toilets, road safety measures, traffic management, Swachh Bharat and tree plantation. A student will get the liberty to choose one of the components.

The chief minister mooted the idea of social work in educational institutions in order to reduce stress among students. He asked the Intermediate Board to allot 5 per cent of marks to students for carrying out social service.

He also instructed the board to form a new committee that would recommend changes to the education system. In addition to the five components, the committee would lay stress on introduction of yoga and meditation to destress the students, according to the board.

The guidelines to be laid down by the committee will have the timings and hours for the students to indulge in the social activities in order to achieve the required marks. The commitee would also suggest the procedure for evaluating their work.
