Rejuvenation of Panchayat raj- A necessity

The aim of Indian Independence was to bring the country into its age-old cultural heritage of self-rule from village level. The village rules, its development, economical wellbeing all were centered around the village itself.Gandhiji tapped this point in a special way instilling enthusiasm, among rural people. The Panchayat Raj was the offspring of this thought.In fact, from the beginning this system formed an important part of our country's electoral and developmental process.

Though all our leaders stressed on this topic the ground level implementation of this system could not meet expectations.Elections at panchayat level were not on the political party basis, but almost at every level politics sneaked into it. The central government allocated huge amounts for the upliftment of these mini-parliaments.

The well being of panchayats hinder the exodus of people, to cities for unemployment.All the public connected works like drinking water, sewage, roads, schools, hospitals maintenance can be purviewed under this system.It is of high importance money power, caste, and religious favouritism may not enter into panchayat elections and in the execution of its activities.

The Present Prime Minister Modi is also keen on this and started new scheme to help the underdeveloped areas.It wants to drive away the poverty from 50,000 village panchayats, thus stretching helping hand to more than 10 crore families.

In Telangana state, chief Minister KCR is also determined to streamline sarpanch, panchayat officers with proper guidelines .The union finance Minister recently said about Rs 3 lakh crore is diverted via various budgetary heads. All these grants must be utilized for villages welfare, keeping aside politics.
