Student Unions staged protests against students Suicides

Amaravati, Oct 17: The frequent suicides of Intermediate Students has become a hot topic in the state.

The student unions are staged protests across Andhra Pradesh on Monday brought the recent suicides in corporate colleges into sharp focus.

Most of the colleges remained closed as AISF, PDSU, SFI, and other unions gave a bandh call even as Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu took a serious view of the incidents at a high-level meeting with the officials concerned at the Secretariat.

The bandh had its impact on private colleges where the students staged demonstrations demanding that Neerada Reddy and Chakrapani Committee reports should be made public and steps taken to prevent more youngsters from taking the extreme step.

They expressed concern over the suicides and wanted the responsibility to be fixed on the college management. The student unions insisted that the government should institute a judicial probe into the incidents.

A majority of the private colleges in Vijayawada and Guntur remained closed as the students went around the cities enforcing bandh in protest against the suicides which they blamed on the stress caused by prolonged hours of class work.
