APJ Abdul Kalam birth anniversary: School renamed after him

On the 87th birthday of APJ Abdul Kalam, Mumbai, Ghatkopar-based school was renamed after him.
87 students unveiled a life-size statue of him. A Ghatkopar-based school run by the North Mumbai Welfare Society (NMWS) was renamed SIES Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial High School on Sunday, which would have been the former president's 87th birthday.

Kalam, known as the Missile Man of India for his contribution to aerospace research, succumbed to a heart attack in July 2015 while delivering a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management in Shillong. He died doing what he loved most - sharing knowledge and interacting with young people.

"In his honour and memory and in acknowledgement of the significant contribution he made to ignite young minds, we have decided to rename the newly-acquired NMWS school after him," SIES President V Shankar said.
