Naraka Chaturdashi :Its Mythological Importance

Hyderabad Oct 15: Many people celebrate Diwali With great enthusiasm. People pray goddess Lakshmi on the festival so that their wealth is increased. The celebration of Diwali as its origins to Tretha Yuga and Dwapara Yugas .

Many people celebrate the festival for 5 days starting from Dan Theras to two days after no moon days. But the main festival is celebrated on Naraka Chathurdashi and Diwali.

Naraka Chaturdashi /Bhoghi: It is an auspicious occasion on the day before Diwali where people are offered 'Mangal Harthi' after they take a head bath in the morning. This day is celebrated to remember the victory of good over evil.

The mythological story of the festival is as follows

A Demon named Narakasurudu is born to Lord Vishnu and Bhudevi. He is a great devotee of Lord Shiva. He impressed shiva with his prayer and he has asked Lord Shiva to give him a blessing that he would die only because of her mother. The god agreed and granted him powers.

Later he has started torturing all the people and he has killed many women.many people have prayed Vishnu to save their lives from the demon.Krishna along with his wife Satyabhama have fought a war but Krishna couldn't defeat the demon later the Goddess Satyabhama a form of Bhudevi has killed the demon and the festival Naraka Chaturdashi is celebrated.
