After bankruptcy, Air Berlin to sell its planes to Lufthansa

Air Berlin went bankrupt after losing a a cash lifeline from its biggest shareholder Etihad Airways in August. The airlines got an emergency loan of €150 million ($178 million) from the German government and its aircraft were kept aloft.

Airborne behemoth Lufthansa announced its plans to buy half of the bankrupt carrier’s planes on Thursday, with this, the problems of Germany’s airline Air Berlin may end soon.

Atleast 81 out of the 144 aircrafts will be sold by the Germany's largest airline and it will also cut its staff from 8,500 to 3,000.

Lufthansa chief executive Carsten Spohr said it as a “great day” for his company. The deal will be signed soon.
