Fire Cracker Traders Approach SC to lift the ban on Sales

New Delhi Oct 12: A group of firecracker traders yesterday has approached the Supreme Court seeking modification of the October 9 order which has banned the sale of crackers in Delhi/NCR till November 1.

The petitioners have claimed that "a huge amount of money has been invested by them after their licences were revived and the recent order of the apex court would cause huge loss to them."

They have also said that "that their licenses were revived after the apex court lifted the ban as per an order on September 12 and thereafter they procured firecrackers for sale during Diwali."

The bench assured the counsel for the traders that it "would consult the judge concerned, who had passed the order, for placing their interim application for urgent hearing". Meanwhile, a Research Team of IIT Kanpur has conducted an empirical study on the pollution levels of Delhi from 2013 to 2016 and found out that Pollution was less after Diwali.

It has also found that construction dust and vehicular traffic, and burning of paddy and other straw are the major causes for pollution and firecrackers pollution lasted for less than 24 hours. Meanwhile, many Hindu activists have started protesting against the order and said that it infringes the fundamental rights and the court cannot dictate on peoples personal choices.
