New Delhi, October 09: Here is the shocking news for this festive season for the Delhi people, as supreme court has asserted that, Firecrackers will not be sold in Delhi and nearby towns on Diwali this year.

The Supreme Court has restored a ban on their sale till November 1, Diwali falls on October 09.

Each year, the festival leaves the air in Delhi thick with smoke and pollution.The sale of crackers in Delhi has been suspended.

A bench headed by Justice A K Sikri had announced its verdict on a plea seeking restoration of the apex court's last year order banning the sale of firecrackers in Delhi-NCR.

The top court, through its November 11 order last year, had suspended all licenses which "permit sale of fireworks, wholesale and retail within the territory of NCR".

Later, on September 12 this year, the apex court had temporarily lifted its earlier order and permitted sale of firecrackers.
