Online fraudster arrested for cheating in pretext of selling smartphones

Hyderabad, Oct 8: The Cybercrime Police have arrested an online fraudster for cheating people on the pretext of selling Smartphones at cheaper prices here on Sunday. He used the social media platform Instagram to lure his prospects online.

The details reported that, The accused identified as Manoj Loya alias Manu, 22, student and native of Nizamabad who had cheated the prospective Smartphone buyers by creating an Instagram page called 'Classy hub'.

According to police, they began an investigation into the matter after a man registered a complaint with them alleging that the accused collected an amount of Rs 10,000 from him through E-wallets Mobikwik, Paytm and Oxigen. The complainant requested to take necessary action against the fraudster, who was operating 'Classy hub' on Instagram.

"The accused had created an Instagram page styled as 'Classy hub' for selling of smartphones at cheaper cost. After gullible contacts him by noticing the advertisement, the accused would collect money through E-wallets Paytm, Mobikwik, Oxigen.

After the transfer of money into his account, he would give assurance to the customers. However, he blocked them on the Instagram group with an intention to cheat the gullible victims. The accused had cheated many people all over the country," said Avinash Mohanty, DCP, Detective Department, CCS.

The police booked him under sections 419, 406, 420 IPC & Sec 66 (D) of ITA Act. Also seized 2 mobile phones, 19 cheque books, 8 different Bank account passbooks, 6 Debit Cards of various banks, 2 Credit Cards of HDFC and froze an amount of approximately Rs 1,50,000 in 3 bank accounts.
