Singareni trade union elections 2017 records 96% polling

Kothagudem, Oct 5: The Singareni collieries trade union elections 2017 has begun at 7 am and ended at 5 pm in the evening.

Around 96 per cent polling was recorded for the recognized union elections of Singareni Mines, on Thursday - a 2 percent increase over last year.

Polling began at 7 am itself to enable the night shift miners to cast their votes, and continued till 5 pm. According to Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), 92 polling booths have been set up across 11 areas in six districts of the coal belt to facilitate 52,534 employees to cast their vote.

While the entire election process will be held under the supervision of officials from the Union labour ministry, the counting of votes will be taken up from Thursday evening.

Interestingly, the polls witnessed strange coalition politics with arch-rivals Congress and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) joining hands with the Left to form an alliance.

They intend to take on the Telangana Boggu Ghani Karmika Sangham (TGBKS) promoted by the ruling TRS. The Congress and TDP leaders have also jointly campaigned in the run-up to the polls and are leaving no stone unturned to win the elections.

The results will be announced late on Thursday night.
