Minister Harish Rao released Godavari water to ayacut in Siddipet

Siddipet, Oct 5: The Telangana Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao has released Godavari water from Tapaspally reservoir here on Wednesday, constructed as part of Devadula Lift Irrigation Project at on the outskirts of Tapaspally village of Komuravelly Mandal, to ayacut in Siddipet.

The Minister said the aim was to supply Godavari water by completing 29-km long D-4 distributary, which was part of the left bank canal of Tapaspally reservoir.

Since the digging of 15-km stretch for D-4 distributary has been completed, Rao said they had decided to impound eight minor irrigation tanks in Kondapaka mandal by releasing water.

He said they had granted Rs 41 crore for completing the D-4 distributary. Having 0.3 tmc ft storage capacity, Tapaspally reservoir is intended to supply irrigation water to 82,000 acres ayacut in Siddipet and Jangaon districts.

Talking about the ongoing works of Mallanasagar, the Minister said they could easily supply irrigation water to various parts of Telangana since Siddipet was located at higher altitude when compared to other districts.

MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, Jangaon MLA Muthireddy Yadagiri Reddy, Collector P Venkatrami Reddy and others were present.
