Catalans distancing from Spain

The Catalans voted in a big way favoring separation from Spain in the just concluded referendum.Now the Catalan leader Carles puegdemont wants to turn the 90 % positive vote of more than 20 lakh people as the basis for separate country, by taking it to regional parliament.

The process may not be easy as the constitutional court ordered suspension of the referendum due to certain discrepancies.The referendum which faced clashes with police prompted central government to warn using emergency powers if unilateral independence declaration emerges. Spanish law allows administrative control of Catalonia.

The mayor of Barcelona Ada Colau called on Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy to resign because he brought in police force.puegdemont is asking the international community to intervene in this regard .He expects help from the European Union though European Commission wants unity and stability there.
