Vishakapatnam to construct 2.4 lakh toilets within 4 months

Vishakapatnam, Sept 24: The Vishakapatnam District Collector Praveen Kumar has instructed officials on Saturday to construct 2.4 lakh individual toilets within 4 months in order to make the district open defecation free (ODF).

Mentioning that open defecation has still resorted to some of the rural areas in the district, he told in a review meeting here on Saturday that they had to construct toilets at the rate of 2,000 per day during the next four months.

However, Rs.360 crore would be needed for the purpose at the rate Rs.90 crore every month. It might take some time for such money to be released by the government and therefore, the officials could utilize the funds of various departments on a reimbursement basis, he suggested.
