Navaratri: Goddess Durga festival; worshipping 9 forms of Durga

Navratri also known as Navadurga is the festival in which 9 forms of Durga are worshipped. The nine day Hindu festival is beginning on 21 September 2017.
Here are the nine forms of Durga which are worshipped each day.

Shailaputri: Shailaputri means the daughter of the mountains. She is the first of the nine avatars of Durga.

Brahmacharini: This is the second avatar of Goddess Durga. Brahma -Charini meaning a female follower of Brahma.

Chandraghanta: This is the third form of goddess Durga.

Kushmanda: She is the fourth form of the Hindu goddess Durga. Ku means a "little,' Ushman means "warmth" or "energy", and "Anda" means "cosmic egg." She is considered to have created the universe with her divine smile.

Skanda Mata: This is the fifth of the nine avatars. "Skanda" is another name for Kartikeya and "Mata" means mother.

Katyayini: The sixth of the avatars, she is regarded as the ferocious forms of Shakti or Durga. She is also called Bhadrakali or Chandika.

Kaalratri: Kaalratri or Kali is worshipped on the seventh day of Navaratri. She is one of the lividest forms of Durga. Kaalratri is the one who destroys ignorance and removes darkness.

Maha Gauri: She is worshipped on the eighth day of Navaratri. Maha Gauri is intelligent, peaceful and calm.

Siddhidatri: The ninth avatar of goddess Durga has supernatural healing powers. She manifests as the Mother Goddess and blesses all gods, saints, yogis, tantrics and devotees.
