Highlights of Sardar Sarovar Dam

Ahmedabad, September 17: The Prime Minister Of India Narendra Modi has launched the Sardar Sarovar Dam here on today. Here are the highlights of the Sardar Sarovar Dam.

Sardar Patel initiated the construction of a dam on the river Narmada in 1945. Later, the Sardar Sarovar Dam was laid on April 5, 1961, by the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru.The height of the dam is 138.68 meters and the length is 1,210 meters. The dam has 30 gates.

Sardar Sarovar Dam has the capacity to store 4.73 million water.Pink, white and red 620 LED bulbs have been planted on the dam. Of these, 120 bulbs are attached to 30 dams.

The Narendra Modi government had allowed the height of Narmada Dam (Sardar Sarovar) to be increased from 121. 92 meters to 138.72 meters (455 feet) in just 20 days of 2014. This work was to be completed by September 2017.



In 1985 there was tremendous resistance to the Sardar Sarovar Dam. Since then, efforts have been made to stop the construction of the dam under the leadership of social worker Medha Patkar.The issue of displacement of people coming to the submerged area has been rising from time to time. According to an estimate, more than 5 lakh families are battling displacement problems.

Gujarat will get the highest benefit of the dam. This will allow irrigation of 18.45 lakh hectares of land of 3137 villages of 15 districts.

Madhya Pradesh will get the maximum share of 57% of the electricity. Maharashtra will get 27% and Gujarat will get 16% power. Rajasthan will get only water.

This project will benefit 18 lakh hectares of irrigation water through Narmada water can be irrigated in 9,000 villages.
