Happy Teachers Day, reason for teachers day celebration

Every year we celebrate teachers day on 5th of September but only few know, why we celebrate Teachers day on this date.

The year 1962 saw first teachers day celebration. It was the year when Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan became second president of India. Students of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan proposed of celebrating his birthday as 'Radhakrishnan Day'.

'Radhakrishnan Day' was not what Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan wanted , he suggested it would be good if we can celebrate for all teachers. He said “Instead of celebrating my birthday, it would be my proud priviledge if September 5 is observed as Teachers’ Day.”

Born in town of Tirutani of Andhra Pradesh in the year 1882, Radhakrishnan studied hard and became teacher professor at Presidency College in Madras and the University of Calcutta
