Bandaru Dattatreya resigned as Cabinet Minister

New Delhi, Sept 1: The Union minister of state for labor Bandaru Dattatreya has resigned from the Narendra Modi cabinet on Friday afternoon and everyone was surprised by his resignation.

On Friday morning, the party circles were surprised to know that even Dattatreya was asked to resign. And in the afternoon, he handed the resignation letter to the Prime Minister.

One buzz in the media in New Delhi is that Dattatreya might be appointed as Governor of a state.

However, this is unlikely because he is an elected Lok Sabha member from Secunderabad and the BJP cannot afford to lose an MP at this juncture and go in for a by-election. So, it might not happen.

The other possibility is that Dattatreya might be made the vice-president of the party and his services would be utilised for the strengthening the party affairs in the south. But unfortunately, Dattatreya is not a very popular leader with mass appeal, but a sober politician and one fails to understand how he would be useful to the party.

Moreover, Dattatreya is the only representative from Telangana in the Narendra Modi cabinet. If he is dropped, it would send a wrong signal to the party cadres.

Meanwhile, reports say Modi is also contemplating changing the portfolio of Union Civil Aviation Minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju and shift him to a not-so-important ministry.
