Mumbai Halted due to Heavy Rains

Mumbai Aug 30: Heavy rains occurred in Mumbai yesterday.
The Situation in the city has been deteriorating with the continuous outpour of heavy rains. Many roads have become water canals because of waterlogging.

The city has recorded a rainfall of 300 millimeters highest after 12 years. The IMD has also predicted that more rains would lash the city in this week.

The public transport system has been halted because of many local trains being canceled and some trains being delayed. The worst affected places are the metropolis, adjoining Navi Mumbai and Thane.

The Mumbai police have closed the traffic on Bandra Worli sea link due to water logging at the Worli end. Meanwhile, the famous 'dabbawalas' said that they have canceled their delivery of over two lakh tiffins to office goers in the city in view of the disruption of suburban rail services.

Many people have complained to the BMC about the situation and said that they have not taken any precautionary steps to prevent waterlogging in the city.

Experts have said that the city town planning officials have not learnt any lessons from 2005 July heavy rainfall where the whole city was almost submerged and they have not prepared a comprehensive roadmap and the situation has repeated.

Finally, its high time that officials react and plan the city infrastructure in such a way that these incidents can be prevented.
